Can you get mono more than once? This is one of the most common
questions that people have when it comes to the kissing disease,
mononucleosis. Mono is caused by a virus, the Epstein-Barr virus. When
you become infected with the virus, you will soon experience the
symptoms of pain, fatigue, and sore throat. It is highly unlikely that
you will ever experience the symptoms of mono again. However, once you
get this virus in your body, it will be there for the rest of your
life, only in a dormant state.
This does not mean that you will have to deal with recurring bouts
of mono. This means that it will still be present in your body and
that there may be times when you will be able to spread the virus to
others. Most people who have had the virus only have the illness once
and then never have to worry about it again. Normally, the chances of
spreading the virus after it has gone into a dormant state is very
low. It depends on the person that is the carrier and the virus,
itself.
It cannot be predicted if this virus or any other virus will stay
dormant or become active. Once you have had mono, you should get back
to living your normal life. Try to avoid sharing things like
toothbrushes and forks and spoons. But this is a practice that should
be a habit before you even get mono. Since mono is very contagious
when it is in an active state, it usually gets spread by exchanges of
saliva. If you have an active case of mono, avoid kissing and sharing
things that come into contact with your mouth. Once the illness is
gone, you will normally be fine to get back to living your life.
Adults tend to have stronger immune systems than adolescents and
young children. This is why mono is often found in teens. If you have
mono as a teen, by the time you reach adulthood, there should be no
reason why you will have to deal with it again. This includes those
that you come into contact with. If you have any questions or
concerns, always go to your doctor and let him give you the answers
that you need
