Signs Symptoms Of Mono

             Mono (Mononucleosis) is a viral infectious disease. Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) causes the disease. Adolescent and young adults, children are affected by the virus. Adults have resistance to the virus. It makes one very tired and fatigue for a long time. Enough rest and careful living is needed during this time. It is transmitted from one person to other through saliva, mucus from nose and throat, and tears. It is called kissing disease; it is transmitted through kissing. An isolated living during this time is recommended. Once mono goes away the virus remains dormant but can become active at times. Once active virus is transmitted.

            The symptom of mono is not observed immediately after infection. It takes about four to six weeks for the symptoms of mono to appear. High fever and fatigue are the common signs of mono.

                        Fatigue, weakness, Sore throat, a strep throat is not cured by antibiotics,

                        High Fever, Swollen lymph nodes in neck and armpits, Headache, Skin Rash, Loss of appetite, Soft swollen spleen (severe pain in upper left part of belly may indicate rupture spleen), Night sweats, fatigue, enlarged lymph and swollen spleen may be observed even after all other symptoms disappear.

One should go to the Doctor as soon as one or many of the symptoms are observed. Blood Tests (monospot and Epstein-Barr virus test) are done to diagnose the mono.

            There is generally no prescribed medicine for mono. Plenty of rest and self-care is the possible treatment for mononucleosis. Particular care is to be taken to prevent transmission of the disease. It is very infectious. Temporary isolation and sharing of bed, clothes, utensils, and other daily use materials should be avoided.

            Self care

                        . Total rest (bed rest); no school or work at home or outside home

                        . Sore throat treatment – gargle with warm salt water, use throat lozens.

                        . Fever and pain relief – Use Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Advil to   get relief from fever, sore throat

                         and headache.

                        . Careful living after – After disappearance of symptoms one should avoid

                         heavy sports and heavy lifting. Swollen spleen may need more time to

                          heal. Extra load may cause the spleen to burst.

            Signs Symptoms of Mono are many but the treatment is careful living during the disease. Self-care is the best cure.
